Our Craftsmanship
Every piece we create is tailored to your needs and built to last. We use top-quality woods and materials like maple and poplar for painted finishes, alder for stain-grade projects, and luxurious rift-sawn white oak for high-end staining. We even use pre-finished maple plywood instead of regular plywood.
Unlike others, we avoid shortcuts and refuse to compromise on quality. From Blum drawer slides to precision-cut hinges, we use only the best hardware—no knock-offs, ever.

About Our Staff
Dave Span (Master Cabinetmaker and Owner)
Hi, I’m Dave Span! I started The Refined Craftsman back in 2012, but my love for woodworking goes way further back. Growing up in Ohio, I spent hours in my dad’s workshop and was fascinated by my grandfather’s endless tool collection (even if his organization left a lot to be desired!). Those early memories shaped my passion for building and creating, and eventually, I turned that passion into a business here in Murrieta, California.
To get things rolling, I went all in on training at Palomar College, diving into cabinetmaking, furniture design, veneering, and finishing. After that, I spent three years apprenticing at a custom cabinet shop, learning the ins and outs of the trade. With my contractor’s license in hand and my wife cheering me on, I launched my own business—and haven’t looked back since!
These days, I run a bustling shop with a small, talented team, and we’re all about crafting high-quality, custom furniture, cabinets, and home improvements. From small projects to big builds, we put heart and skill into everything we create. When I’m not in the shop, I’ve even had the chance to teach woodworking at Palomar College, sharing my love for this craft with the next generation.
